Under the title “Poveda's Dreams”, the TA in Guadix held a commemorative event on 14 June with a conference by Loreto Ballester -- TA president from 2000 to 2012--, and music by the Amabile Quartet.
Poveda's dreams
The event formed part of the celebrations taking place in Guadix in this centenary year of the pontifical approval of the Teresian Association.
Loreto Ballester, who has a doctorate in Chemistry and was president of the Teresian Association in the period 2000-2012, spoke about “the insights that a young, visionary and courageous priest bequeathed to Guadix more than 100 years ago.”
She then went on to talk about the different places in the world where the Association is present today, especially in countries where the situation is more difficult due to the current circumstances of poverty, social exclusion or conflict. She invited those present to reflect on how Poveda's ideas can be applied today to face these challenges.
She also highlighted the current presence of the TA “in Guadix and with Guadix” through the different ways of “making so many dreams come true”. She expressed her gratitude for the support of the city of Guadix to local projects and to many initiatives run by the universal Association.
The event was rounded off with a musical performance by three members of the Amabile Quartet, who played several pieces from film soundtracks.

TA social action today
Meanwhile in Linares, birthplace of Pedro Poveda, on 24 May 2024, María del Pilar Cachofeiro Ramos, of InteRed and member of the Social Area team of the TA in Spain, presented “Brushstrokes of TA Social Action today” in an event organised by the Poveda Cultural Centre as part of the commemoration of the centenary.
Pilar presented how social action in the charism of the TA stems from a way of perceiving, thinking, feeling, taking a position and taking action, and of responding through education-cultures-justice to the challenges of the present, thus contributing to human advancement and social transformation, based on the values of the Gospel.
End-of-the-academic-year celebration in Madrid
Finally, the Teresian Association in Madrid marked the end of the academic year on 14 June to give thanks for all that was experienced during that time and at the same time to celebrate the centenary. After the Mass, the music of the Folie Ensemble filled the atmosphere with celebration and gratitude.
