On Sunday, December 22, the Teresian Association in Kinshasa (Congo) celebrated the first centenary of its pontifical approval with splendour.
Cardinal Fridolin Ambongo Besungu, Archbishop of Kinshasa, marked this historic event by presiding at a solemn mass in the parish of the Sacred Heart of Gombe near the headquarters of the TA in the capital of the Democratic Republic of Congo.
A new chapter opens
In his homily, Cardinal Ambongo emphasised the importance of this milestone: ‘You are closing the first century of your association to open a second; you are entering the second centenary of your history. As for Mary, your joy lies only in your total availability to the service of your brothers and sisters’, he said.
The cardinal also urged TA members to face the challenges of our time:
Renew education: adapt pedagogical methods to today's challenges: economy, culture, religion, ecology, digital technology.
Reconciling contemplative life and integral ecology: balancing prayer and action in order to preserve our planet.
Empowering the family: strengthening the role of the family as a haven of peace and dialogue.
A renewed commitment
At the end of the Mass, leaflets presenting the Teresian Association and its activities in the Democratic Republic of Congo were distributed. This event, according to TA members in Congo, has been an opportunity to reaffirm the belonging to the Work of St. Pedro Poveda and to project it into the future with optimism.
In a joyful and friendly atmosphere, in the parish halls, they shared refreshments in the company of collaborators, family and friends.
