“Happy Feast Day”! That was the cherry greeting of everyone in Saint Pedro Poveda College Campus (Quezon City) before and after the lively Eucharistic Celebration for the faculty and staff in the morning of July 28 presided by Fr. Ricky Montañez.
In his homily, he emphasized how we can participate in social transformation that Fr. Poveda espoused. As the choir sang “Bajo tu amparo” and later “Esta es mi unica aspiración”, everyone stood to venerate the relic of the saint.
Celebrations in various parishes
In the evening of the same day, another Mass at the National Shrine of Our Lady of Peace (EDSA-Ortigas Ave., Quezon City) was presided by Fr. Anjo Jose for the parishioners of EDSA. He likened Fr. Poveda’s style of doing mission to the parable of the mustard seed, a small seed that eventually became a large tree. The intimate gathering was also capped off with the veneration of Poveda’s relic.
Simultaneously in the Holy Family Parish (Roxas District, Quezon City) where Fr. Poveda is the secondary patron, the Eucharist was also held.
The following evening (July 29), in the Our Lady of Fatima Parish (Mandaluyong City), Fr. Russel Ocampo, the priest presider, challenged the community to be, like Pedro Poveda, courageous witnesses to their faith. The particularity of this celebration included a simple chat-encounter with the Elisa Giambelluca scholars and their mothers who are based in the Parish.
